Description:
A highway patrol trooper notices something strange on the side of the road: a homemade cross, fashioned as a memorial. Except the date being 'remembered' is the following day - the day the police find a kidnapped teenage girl in the trunk of a car, left for dead. Special Agent Kathryn Dance, kinesics expert with the California Bureau of Investigation, is on the case. The teenage victim points her to an online community where criticism is vicious. It looks as though one teen has finally snapped. Then further crosses appear. Now Dance must race against the clock to find the attacker before he can carry out his deadly plans for revenge ...in the cyber world and the real.

What the papers say:
'Ever the master at combining properly drawn characters with jaw-dropping twists, Deaver proves he doesn't need his best-known detective, Lincoln Rhyme, to be a bestseller' -- Independent on Sunday, Books of the Year 'ROADSIDE CROSSES is a gripping story peopled with memorable characters. No surprise. Jeffery Deaver is grand master of the ticking-clock thriller.' -- Kathy Reichs 'Deaver's heroine's complex private life gives an addictive soap-opera appeal to an engaging who-dunnit that revolves around the way in which social networking websites can end up spreading poison' -- The Times 'Ever the master at combining properly drawn characters with jaw-dropping twists, Deaver proves he doesn't need his best-known detective, Lincoln Rhyme, to be a bestseller.' -- Independent on Sunday, Books of the Year 'Tightly constructed with a suspenseful story and plenty of plot twists, Deaver, perhaps more than any other crime writer, is able to fool even the most experienced readers with his right-angle turns ... an excellent entry in what promises to be a series as popular as the author's Lincoln Rhyme novels' -- Booklist 'Deaver's familiar complex plotting always allows for strong character and the blend remains as potent and chilling as ever. One of the most reliable thrill merchants on the scene.' -- Bookseller 'Deaver is a master of the narrative twist -- and he doesn't let us down here.' -- Heat on ROADSIDE CROSSES 'It's always wise to expect the unexpected from Jeffery Deaver, whose techology-driven mysteries are the most fiendishly plotted in the genre.' -- New York Times Praise for Jeffery Deaver's thrillers -- : 'Confirms his status as one of the finest crime writers in the world ... grabs the reader by the throat from the beginning. Superb.' -- Independent on Sunday 'If you want thrills, Deaver is your man' -- Guardian
